Assembly of a escapement mobile on the CIMOD AS.4
Initial premise
The CIMOD AS.4 had to be able to assemble an escapement wheel by pressing and/or riveting.
The escape wheel had to be sorted from top to bottom, so that the teeth were oriented on the same side, before being driven or riveted onto a pinion.
The assembly had to meet the following tolerances: maximum axial runout of 25 µm and radial runout of 13 µm, with a CPK greater than 1.3 and a cycle time of less than 10 seconds.
The components were supplied in bulk and, once assembled, the mobile was unloaded onto a pallet.
The most critical point
The number of models that the machine had to handle, i.e. 4 wheels and 10 different pinions, representing a total of 10 escapement mobiles. And all this with a changeover time of less than 20 minutes.
Proposed solution
The top/bottom orientation of the escape wheel is done directly with the integrated camera under the pick-up area of the distribution system.
For the pinion, which also had to be oriented up/down, the choice fell on the tilted Modufeed© with the camera positioned above the pick-up zone.
When the cameras give the information that there are well-oriented components in the picking zone. The manipulator arm, equipped with its block of 4 pick-up heads, picks them up by vacuum.
The first pick-up head sucks the pinion, and the second the wheel. The manipulator arm then places the pinion and the wheel, one on top of the other, in the press fitting.
If the assembly is done by pressing, the press pushes the wheel through the head onto the pinion. For an assembly by riveting, the gripping head is removed and the press rivets the wheel to the pinion. In order to check the correctness of the pressing or riveting operation, the force and position of the press are checked.
Good assembled and inspected components are unloaded in trays, using the third gripper head. Bad parts are discharged in bulk.
The cycle time for assembling the escapement mobile is 8.2 seconds, including unloading into pallets.
