Initial situation

The assembly of an escape wheel assembly requires micrometric precision and perfect control of forces, whether in press-fit or riveted variants.

The project had to integrate a wide variety of products, including wheel orientation sorting directly within the automated flow, in order to guarantee functional compliance without intermediate handling.

The entire process is based on bulk feeding, with a clear objective: achieving a 7-second cycle time while meeting the quality standards of high-end Swiss watchmaking.

Challenge

The main challenge was managing a large number of variants, including press-fit and riveted configurations, without compromising process stability.
The solution had to enable changeovers within a maximum of 10 minutes, thanks to a modular design, simplified adjustments, and optimized parameter management.
A key objective was also customer training to ensure full autonomy, both for product changeovers and for daily machine operation

The machine cycle includes:

Pick-up of the pinion and the wheel
Placement of the pinion
Placement of the wheel
Press-fitting or riveting operation using a digital press

The pressing operation is performed in hidden time, during unloading of the assembled product, thus optimizing overall productivity.

Unloading is carried out either into trays or in bulk, depending on customer requirements.

Result: a 6.5-second cycle time, ensuring industrial performance and watchmaking quality.
