Mounting of a date plate performed

Initial situation

The assembly of a calendar main plate on the Octo+ platform involves the integration of numerous components, requiring perfect coordination of assembly operations.

The components, except for the main plates delivered in pallets, are processed directly from bulk, ensuring flexible and automated feeding.

An XYZ precision of ± 2 µm is a central requirement of the process.

The position-controlled press-fitting with force control ensures full control of applied forces and overall geometric stability.

Objective: achieving a 10-second cycle time per press-fit operation, while meeting high-end watchmaking quality standards.

Challenge

The bending of the main plates during press-fitting represented a major challenge, requiring precise control of supports and applied forces to guarantee geometric stability.

The angular orientation of the eccentric was a critical point, demanding precise and repeatable positioning during the press-fitting operation.

The large quantity of components to be processed increased the complexity of cycle organization and feeding flow management.

The top/bottom press-fitting within the main plate, with optimized process sequencing, had to enable simultaneous press-fitting on both sides. Two main plates were positioned on two separate fixtures, front and back, allowing the same component to be press-fitted on either side according to the defined sequence.

The customer wanted to be fully autonomous, capable of creating new recipes and manufacturing their own tooling.

Finally, the machine had to ensure autonomous night operation, requiring high reliability and perfect process stability.
